Sony’s PlayStation Portable to Launch on November 15th
Sony has announced that pre-orders for PlayStation Portal, their $200 handheld device designed for PS5 game streaming, are now open. The device is set to launch on November 15th. In an update to their previous announcement post, the company shared the availability details. To use the device, users will need a PS5 console and a stable WiFi connection.
Sony is marketing the device as a “handheld gateway to PS5 gaming.” Its eight-inch LCD screen offers 1080p visuals at 60 frames per second, and includes haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. ReturnByte’s Kris Holt aptly described the device’s appearance as “kind of like a tablet wedged between the two halves of a DualSense controller.”
However, PlayStation Portal does not support cloud streaming via PlayStation Plus Premium or similar services. It also has no native apps. The device only works as a WiFi remote streaming controller for the PS5 you already own. However, it does at least support long-distance remote play as long as the console is operational at home.
You can pre-order the PlayStation Portal Remote Player exclusively from Sony.
